St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated the world over on March 17th. In addition to its religious significance, St. Patrick's Day also has become an occasion to celebrate one's Irish heritage. On this day the Patron Saint of Ireland is honored with parades, the wearing of the green, and perhaps a plate of corn beef and cabbage! More...

St. Patrick was of Romano-British origin, born in Britain in the year 389. When he was 16 years of age, he was kidnapped and enslaved by Irish raiders. After six years he escaped and become a priest in Britain, but later he returned to Ireland as a missionary to help spread the gospel to pagans. He continued to evangelize for thirty years, baptizing new Christians and establishing monasteries, churches and schools. According to Irish legend, St. Patrick used a shamrock to explain the Christian concept of Trinity to the Irish.
