The Sacred Heart is one of the most widely known devotions in the Catholic Church among both men and women. The devotion originated in the 17th century when the French nun, Sister Marguerite Marie Alacoque, detailed several visions of our Lord that she experienced while deep in prayer. Today, her visions are represented in the detailed artistic representation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
